Reception of the Delegation from Baoshan District, Shanghai

Minsk, July 11, 2025 – Irina Ivanova, Deputy Director General of the Minsk Branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, held a business meeting with representatives of the delegation from Baoshan District, Shanghai. The visit by the Chinese side marked another significant step in strengthening multifaceted partnership between Belarus and China.

During the meeting, the parties thoroughly explored opportunities for expanding cooperation in priority sectors. This included collaboration in the field of biopharmaceuticals, the export of Belarusian dairy products, and linen goods. Special attention was paid to enhancing the participation of Belarusian businesses, with the support of the Minsk Branch of the BelCCI, in business events organized in Shanghai.

Participants in the dialogue expressed confidence that the current visit by the Chinese delegation from Baoshan District, Shanghai, would unlock new opportunities for implementing joint projects and strengthening bilateral ties. The head of the Chinese delegation, Mr. Xiao Gan, emphasized: "Belarus and China are like two rivers flowing toward the same sea. We are building bridges to the future, and Baoshan District is ready to be such a bridge: for technology, investment, and friendship."

The parties agreed to intensify cooperation across all areas, including the exchange of delegations. Irina Ivanova noted: "Collaboration with such a dynamic district as Baoshan will enable Belarusian companies to adopt innovative developments and explore promising market niches. I am confident that even after the first joint event, projects will emerge that will boost the export of Belarusian products, mutual trade turnover, and the implementation of joint projects in scientific, educational, and cultural spheres."

Concluding the meeting, the Chinese side confirmed its readiness to support initiatives and projects of the Minsk Branch of the BelCCI and invited Belarusian partners to participate in key Shanghai events.

Background: Baoshan District is located in the north of Shanghai and covers an area of 300.6 sq. km. Its economy relies on industry, shipping, logistics, and agriculture, with a focus on modernization and green technologies. Baoshan District hosts the headquarters and plants of China's largest steelmaker, Baoshan Iron and Steel (Baosteel), part of the China Baowu Steel Group. The plants produce steel for construction, automotive, and shipbuilding industries. A large thermal power plant, Shidongkou, is situated on the Yangtze River bank. Baoshan is also actively developing robotics, particularly in industrial automation and high-tech fields.
